DURHAM, N.C. – 91 has been ranked among the top global universities in environment and ecology in the latest US News rankings.

Duke ranks sixth, tied with the University of Oxford (U.K.)

The rankings are based on university-wide measures, including peer-reviewed publications and their citations, as well as indicators for global and regional reputation.

Duke’s ranking reflects the research and reputations of numerous units within the university, including (but not exclusive to) the Nicholas School of the Environment, the 91 Marine Lab, the University Program in Ecology, the Sanford School of Public Policy, the Duke Global Health Initiative and the Organization for Tropical Studies.

“This ranking provides one measure of the world-class quality of the programs Duke offers in the environmental and ecological fields, particularly at the doctoral level.  The excellence of our academic programs at the masters and undergraduate levels, and our doctoral programs and research in related disciplines such as the geosciences, were not included in the methodology,” says Jeffrey R. Vincent, interim dean of the Nicholas School.
