On Sat., March 29, millions of people around the world will unite to take a stand against global climate change as part of EarthHour 2008.
From 8 to 9 p.m., they will turn off all lights in their homes and businesses to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming, and to help raise awareness of the everyday conservation measures we can all take to reduce our carbon footprints.
EarthHour was launched by World Wildlife Fund-Australia last year and held primarily in the Sydney metropolitan area. More than 2 million residents of Sydney 鈥渇lipped the switch鈥 to show support for the initiative and help signal their concern about the need for governments, industry and citizens to work together to address climate change. Energy consumption in the metropolitan area dropped by 10.2 percent during the hour.
Organizers hope that tens of millions of citizens and businesses worldwide will take part this year.
