What is your previous work experience?
I come to the Nicholas School after 3 years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company, departing the firm as an Engagement Manager. I primarily served clients on change management processes while leading McKinsey Austin’s sustainable and inclusive growth initiative .
Why did you choose the Nicholas School?
I chose to attend the Nicholas School (and Duke, more broadly speaking), because it provides me a unique interdisciplinary approach to coastal environmental management. With the new environment-and-management-concentration-based curriculum, I can seamlessly explore my passions while obtaining the tools I’ll need for a successful career.
What are you looking forward to as an incoming Nicholas School student?
I cannot wait to learn from my cohort and their experiences! It speaks to the Nicholas School that it can bring together such a motivated group of students with a range of backgrounds.
Do you have any areas of interest or special focus you will undertake during your time at the Nicholas School?
My undergraduate research thesis, titled “Recreational Demand for Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper” (Timothy Dunne, Ph.D., University of Notre Dame) explored the economics of recreational fishing of one fishery. I am thrilled by the chance to expand my limited knowledge of marine resource economics tools and topics, and, given that I love to spend time on the coast, hopefully this leads to field research opportunities during my time at the Duke Marine Lab.
What are your current career aspirations?
I am passionate about economics and marine resources, and my hope is that I can find a fulfilling career at the intersection of the two areas. We will see where it takes me!
