Rafid Shidqi is a marine conservationist by training from Indonesia. He is a current PhD student at 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû and the , a youth-led NGO focused on conserving endangered sharks and transitioning communities from traditional shark hunting into alternative livelihoods through research, education, and policy change.

Prior coming to Duke, Rafid completed consultancy roles with various global institutions, such as the , where he led the implementation of climate change initiatives for young people in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Atoll countries. He also worked with FAO in Indonesia as Small-Scale Fisheries Development Specialist in documenting the of implementation of FAO's voluntary guidelines in small-scale fisheries. His other role include with the where he facilitated youths in Asia-Pacific to access funds to lead community-based initiatives in marine conservation, climate adaptation, and mitigation.

Rafid earned an MS from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in Coastal Science and Policy. He also received a certificate in Sustainable Environmental Management from UC Berkeley and a 2022 Biodiversity Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science (ICCS) at the University of Oxford.
